The Gross Truth About Your Jacuzzi Tub (and How to Fix It)

When you think of jacuzzi tubs, you probably picture a relaxing soak in hot water with jets that give you an awesome massage. But here’s the thing—moving all that water around can turn your tub into a bit of a soup. Even if you showered beforehand, skin particles and hair can end up in the inner workings of the tub. It’s totally normal, and there’s not much you can do about it, but it can sometimes cause a slight odor when you use the jets.

A lot of people think filling up the tub with vinegar and running the jets will disinfect it, but let me assure you—that’s just an old wives’ tale. Vinegar mainly just leaves you with a smelly tub and doesn’t really do much to kill bacteria or fix odors. Instead of going down the rabbit hole of questionable online remedies, why not trust the pros? That’s us! We’ve been at this for a while and have tested several products to find the best solution for cleaning your jetted tub—so you get great results without breaking the bank.

We recommend a product called Oh Yuck Jetted Tub Cleaner for Jacuzzis. We’ve attached a link to it on Amazon (https://share.google/8NXMtLmQP9VKC8243 ). It’s super easy to use: just pour the first dose using the handy measurement on the bottle, run your tub with the jets for about 15 minutes, then drain it. Afterward, you’ll notice a surprising layer of gunk—stuff you never knew was hiding inside those pipes. That’s the cleaner doing its job, reaching areas you can’t normally reach by hand.

Once you’ve drained the solution, it’s time for some good old-fashioned scrubbing. Usually, a little hot water and your favorite cleaner do the trick—focusing on the inner lip of the jets and around the nozzles to make sure everything’s squeaky clean and smelling fresh again. The whole process usually takes about half an hour, maybe a bit more if there’s a lot of gunk. We know that’s time you could spend doing other things, so if you’d rather leave it to us, just reach out!
